Laser Therapy FAQs
Read these frequently asked questions about permanent hair reduction, skin rejuvenation, skin resurfacing and acne treatment with lasers to learn how Brilliant Bodywork can help you achieve clearer skin.
This will very much depend on your aims. Perhaps you’re heading away on holiday and want to prep for your itsy-bitsy, teenie-weenie yellow polka dot bikini. Or maybe you have a special occasion approaching and shaving just won’t do the trick. Whatever your reasons, think about what you’re working towards and discuss these with your Brilliant Bodywork laser specialist. They will then be able to determine the best course of action for you, including when to book your first session.
You will need to have a course of 6-9 treatments because of the way the lasers work with different hair and skin colors. They also target hair that is in the ‘growth phase’ of its cycle but your hair reaches this stage at different times, hence the reason for a number of sessions; so that each of the hairs is targeted by the laser at some point. The area being treated, your hair density and skin type will also determine how many times you have to get it done
Laser works best on those with fair skin and thick, dark (brown or black) hair. If you have darker skin, it could be the case that you will require more sessions. Those with blonde or light-colored hair may find that the treatment will not work for them at all. That is why this question is so vital and we will discuss whether or not you are suitable during your free consultation.
As with all procedures, there can be side effects. However, laser hair reduction is considered to be a low risk treatment. Some possible side effects of laser hair reduction can include irritation, itching, swelling, and redness that should not last more than a few days. Some itching and redness in the 48 hours post-treatment can be expected. Your therapist will cover what is normal and what is not.
Wisconsin is an unregulated state when it comes to aesthetic laser treatments and you do not need to be trained to perform these services. These treatments can cause irreversible damage if performed by an untrained technician. Ms. Stephanie our technician has trained at The National Laser Institute and is an international award winner for her results with aesthetic lasers.
You will have to keep an eye on the treatment area in the days immediately following your session but in general, laser hair reduction shouldn’t impact a great deal on your normal routine. You should avoid a few things such as intense sunlight, perfumed products, intense heat, waxing, chlorine and tight clothing for at least 48 hours after leaving the spa but that’s it. We will cover with you how best to approach the aftercare stage.
If you are on regular medication, it is best to inform us during your free consultation. It’s also worth mentioning any previous skin reactions you’ve had from using products/having beauty treatments. Our free consultation will cover questions regarding your medical history to identify any potential red flags.
Laser hair reduction might seem like a big expense up front, but when you think of the money you’ll save on razors, hair removal cream and waxing, it’s actually a lot more affordable than you would think. Also, you’ll save time and get longer-lasting results, so you’ll be ready to ditch the razor and forget about the pain of waxing for good.
Hair removal patients should avoid plucking, electrolysis or waxing for six weeks prior to treatment. If you have a history of herpes simplex virus, prophylactic antiviral therapy may be prescribed. Skin should be clean-shaven and thoroughly cleansed, removing any makeup, creams, oils, topical anesthetics or self-tanning products before laser treatment. Do not expose the intended treatment area to sunlight or tanning booth light prior to or immediately after treatment. Apply sunblock (SPF 30 or above) before treatment.
After your laser treatment, prevent sun exposure by applying sunblock (SPF 30 or above). In the first few days after treatment, don’t scrub or rinse the treated areas with abrasive skin cleansers. We may advise additional precautions based on your personal skin condition.
